    What Are Lifepix?

A Lifepix is a professionally art-worked montage of your photographs, that are printed using the latest digital printing technology onto an handmade ArtBlock.

A specialised photo encaustic process based on an ancient practice of mixing Beeswax with Damar resin is then used to coat and add a unique presentational layer that enhances and preserves your artwork.

    Lifepix

    How it works

Our montages are carefully art worked in our studio by designers who receive your photographs and instructions and then send you a proof for approval before printing.

Choose the amount of images you want on your lifepix from 64, 82 or 100 shots (further details on the Prices page); the number of images you supply dictates sizes, although other landscape or portrait shapes can be made. Please call or email to discuss your requirements.

Send us your photographs; whether they are digital, colour, black and white or sepia and our designers will give them a new lease of life by art working them into your own personal Lifepix. We will send you a proof for approval before printing by e-mail when the layout is finished.

Using the latest digital printing technology and the highest quality output media, we will then print and mount your Lifepix to an exceptionally high quality and colour accuracy on your ArtBlock, that will look simply stunning in your home or office. Your Lifepix can then be delivered to you anywhere in the UK.

  • Our Process

    Creating an ArtBlock

    by Pete

Beeswax The Photo Encaustic process combines an ancient practice of mixing Beeswax with Damar resin, (or tree sap in it's purest form). The early religious iconic art and relics in Pharaoh's tombs contain encaustic wax pieces, so to bring this technique back into a modern setting is exciting for me.

Not only do I enjoy the painterly surface it creates and longevity of the medium, but the attention that needs to be brought to the plight of the bee is just as important to me. The pivotal role that bees perform and their recent decline is a matter of great importance to us all.

Our Process From digital capture the images are layered in Photoshop with all the other photographs. I then print onto 300gsm Smooth Fine Art watercolour paper using an archival pigment, inkjet printer. Once the board has been prepared with gesso I mount the image with acid-free adhesive and coat with U.V varnish. The edges of the image are sanded to 'melt in' to the board and then hot Beeswax and Damar resin are applied and worked with a heatgun and metal spatula before using a flat iron to finish the effect.

    Archival Qualities

ArtBlocks are archival prints made with pigment inks and printed onto archival paper. The ArtBlocks have extra archival qualities due to the nature of the beeswax and damar. Whilst they are both very long lasting mediums, we advise that ArtBlocks should not be hung in direct sunlight, over a fireplace (the heat and soot rising can be damaging) or in a damp environment. You can expect a lifespan of over 85 years if you follow these simple guidelines.

We can affect some possible repairs to your ArtBlock in the unfortunate event of damage. Please ring us to discuss if we can help.
